Seeing as how this is my first ever real blog post I figured I’d take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Samantha and I love crafting.

I’ve been creating since I was a little girl. I started out with drawing. I would fill notebook after notebook with these not so great drawings but it fulfilled my need to create.

In the first grade we would get about thirty minutes per day of free time which we could spend at the “station” of our choice. There was a reading station, a board game station, a building station, etc. My favorite station was the art station. It consisted of a box of paper scraps, glue, glitter, and scissors. It was my favorite thing in the world to sit there amid the strips of brightly colored paper and make cards and collages.

I come from a line of creative people. My great grandmother and her two daughters, my great aunt and my grandma, were extremely talented at various needle arts. Our home was filled with plastic canvas tissue box covers, little dolls that sat atop rolls of toilet paper which they covered with their beautifully crocheted skirts, plastic canvas refrigerator magnets shaped like fruit, hand sewn patchwork quilts, and gorgeous crocheted afghans.

When I craft, especially when I crochet, I feel close to those talented women.

This is my latest crocheted project. It’s done in the corner to corner pattern.

I also enjoy cross stitching

I think my favorite type of crafting, though, is paper crafting. Specifically making mini albums and cards.

This is one of my favorite cards I’ve made so far.
